FAQ

Questions, answered

Straight answers about how PickupWave works, what it costs and what it doesn’t do (yet).

What is an AI receptionist?

An AI receptionist is software that answers your business phone calls in a natural voice. PickupWave’s receptionist greets callers, answers common questions from information you approve, takes messages and appointment requests, and sends you a summary of every call.

How much does PickupWave cost?

Starter is $149/mo, Pro is $249/mo and Premium is $399/mo, plus a one-time setup fee of $199–$299. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial. Nothing is charged at signup.

What is your guarantee?

Cancel anytime during your 14-day trial and pay $0: no setup fee and no monthly charge. In Khan’s words: “If PickupWave doesn’t earn its keep in your trial, you pay nothing. That’s my word.”

Does it speak Spanish?

Yes. Every plan answers in English & Spanish, and the receptionist switches when a caller speaks Spanish.

Will callers know they are talking to AI?

Yes. We set the receptionist up to say it’s an AI assistant when asked, and it can say so up front if you prefer. We don’t pretend it’s a person.

Do I need a new phone number?

No. Most businesses keep their existing number and forward calls (after hours, overflow, or all calls) to the receptionist line we set up for you. We walk you through forwarding during setup.

Can it book appointments into my calendar?

It can always capture appointment requests and email them to you. Booking directly into a calendar depends on your system; we confirm whether yours connects before your trial starts. See what connects today.

Can it transfer calls to my staff?

Yes, call transfer to a number you choose is set up together with your receptionist’s phone line. You decide which calls get transferred.

Are calls recorded?

Calls may be recorded and transcribed so you can review them. Some states require every party’s consent to record, so the receptionist can announce it at the start of each call. See Call recording & consent.

Is PickupWave HIPAA compliant?

No. We don’t currently offer HIPAA compliance or sign Business Associate Agreements. If your practice needs one, tell us before you start and we’ll be upfront about what we can and can’t do.

What happens in an emergency?

The receptionist is not an emergency service. For dangerous situations callers should hang up and dial 911. For urgent business issues, like a burst pipe, it can transfer the call or flag it to you immediately.

Is there a contract?

No. Plans are month-to-month and you can cancel anytime.

Where do you work?

Nationwide. We set everything up remotely, so we can serve small businesses anywhere in the US.
